SCOTT Pye landed his first Supercars career win in a wet and dark Race 5 at the Coates Hire Melbourne 400.
The Walkinshaw Andretti United driver did not pit for wet tyres when rain landed throughout the race and instead kept his lead to defend against reigning champion Jamie Whincup and secure the win.
Scott Pye held back emotions post-race when asked whether the performance was the best drive of his career.
โIt has to be, itโs my first win,โ he said. โIโm just speechless, (itโs a) really special moment and thanks to all the boys โ mega job.
โThat was a tough race and to have someone like Jamie behind you, itโs a long way.โ
โIt means the world, obviously we all have families we all work hard for this and it felt like itโs taken a long time, but my Dadโs up there, he could have helped a bit more with the weather. Obviously I miss him and this is for him today.โ
