When you first take a look at the XC90 Excellence, you think to yourself, I could fit the whole soccer team in that car. But when you take a look inside, you’ll find a four-seater, premium SUV. Yes you read that correctly, there’s only four seats in that huge machine..
With a whopping price of AU$172,200, purchasing the XC90 is not a decision you would make overnight. The Excellence comes with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder super and turbo petrol engine putting out 235kW of power, along with a 65kW electric motor between the rear wheels.
21-inch wheels, adaptive LED headlamps and the panoramic sunroof are all standard, along with a 19 speaker Bowers and Wilkins 1400-watt stereo. Boot space is measured at 431 litres thanks to theΒ four largeΒ seats taking up a considerable amount of space, with the fuel tank capacity only 50 litres.
Between the two rear seats, passengers will find a mini fridge, which can hold roughly two bottles of Champagne. The leather seats consist of a multi-mode massage function and seat controls on the touch screen. Passengers will also have an iPad on the back of the seats in front of them. How unnecessarily cool!
Despite this, the Excellence weighs in at over 2300kg, which means the 2.0-litre engine is always pushing hard. Consequently, fuel figures are not exceptional, particularly as the tank is also quite small. For the price, there is much better, however this is a step in the right direction for Volvo.
