In a spectacular conclusion to the 2023 Formula One season, Max Verstappen claimed his 19th victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, solidifying his place in history with the most dominant season by any driver. Meanwhile, Mercedes successfully held off Ferrari to secure second place in the constructors’ championship, impacting the prize money distribution for the upcoming F1 season.

Red Bull had already secured the constructors’ title earlier in September, dominating the season with victories in all races except the Singapore Grand Prix. Verstappen, who secured the drivers’ title in October, extended his record for the most wins in a season from 15 to 19, finishing the season with a remarkable 290-point lead over teammate Sergio Perez.

The Abu Dhabi victory also marked Verstappen’s 54th career win, placing him third on Formula One’s all-time winners’ list. Expressing his emotions after the race, Verstappen said, “What an incredible year. It was a bit emotional on the in-lap.”

Red Bull’s exceptional season saw them win 21 out of 22 races, with Sergio Perez securing two victories. Looking ahead, Verstappen acknowledged the challenge of replicating such a stellar performance in the upcoming season but affirmed the team’s commitment to maintaining a highly competitive car.

The race showcased Verstappen’s dominance as he led all but six laps, shifting the focus to the intense battle for position between Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Mercedes’ George Russell. With significant implications for the constructors’ championship, the battle saw strategic moves and a dramatic attempt by Leclerc to influence the outcome.

Ultimately, Red Bull’s dominance prevailed, with Mercedes securing second place in the constructors’ standings. Despite Ferrari’s efforts, the battle ended with Leclerc and Russell claiming podium positions, ensuring a thrilling end to an extraordinary F1 season.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix not only marked the conclusion of an incredible season but also left fans eagerly anticipating the challenges and excitement the next Formula One season will bring.
