Formula 1 has announced that the timeless tradition of grid girls will be abolished come the start of the 2018 season. The decision has sparked much discussion regarding whether this was a necessary change or whether it is counterintuitive; taking away jobs from women. Grid girls will be replaced with grid kids, spurring greater involvement in junior-ranks for motorsport.
β’ Wehrlein to make DTM return in 2018
Pascal Wehrlein has been toted to return to DTM in 2018 after failing to find a drive in F1 for the upcoming 2018 season. Wolff has previously expressed his desire to keep Pascal within the βMercedes Familyβ. The DTM move will keep Wehrlein sharp should he be sought for a drive in F1 in the future.
β’ Nico Rosberg Becomes Ambassador for Hot Wheels
Nico Rosberg has announced via Twitter that he will be the Global Ambassador for Hot Wheels. Following Nicoβs retirement from F1 after winning his first World Championship, he has taken on the role of ambassador for Mercedes, remaining a presence in the Paddock, and even offering his analytic services as a commentator. He will now take his ambassador talents to Hot Wheels we will for sure be interested to see how his tenure develops.
β’ New Weekend Schedule for 2018 Features Later Starts:
FIA have decided to pursue later start times to races in 2018. The rationale behind this decision spurs from many broadcasters starting their broadcast on the hour, missing the tension and build up that is paramount to the F1 experience. In addition to this, timing for new audiences coming into F1, including Brazilians and Europeans, have been factored in.
