Behind the Wheel
Accounting for more than 90% of sales, the Stinger GT is the most popular version in the Stinger range with a lively new engine, responsive transmission and fun chassis.
Engine
The Stinger GT is powered by a 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine that puts out 272kW of power at 6000rpm and 510Nm of torque between 1300-4500rpm.
The Stinger GT is powered by an eight-speed automatic transmission. The transmission was seamless and easy to tread along through the highway, however, entering those windy country roads really lacked a purely manual transmission as the gearbox automatically upshifted when revving too high.
Performance
The Stinger GT can reach 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds!
The rear-wheel-drive layout and limited slip differential made cornering impeccable for the size of this thing!
The 3 modes included: Eco, Normal and Sport mode. Eco and normal were dull and laggy, whilst Sport mode allowed the GT to open up and rev through windy roads.
The exhaust was decent in Sport Mode, however, we couldn’t help but urge for more pops and bangs.. More i30 N-esque with those firing crackles!
Those brembo brakes are fantastic though! Well worth the investment for those avid track day goers as the stopping power was remarkable.
Fuel Economy
The combined cycle estimates fuel consumption of 10.2 litres/100km. Our testing returned around 12.5L/100km with mainly city driving and spirited coastal driving, and 10.0L/100km combining highway and city driving.
He fuel tank is 60 litres which is arguable a bit small, however, as it runs on 91RON regular unleaded, it makes the Stinger quite affordable to run.
Interior & Technology
The inside of the Stinger GT is undoubtedly at the top of its class. For the price paid, the Stinger GT comes with all the bells and whistles that you would expect from a $100,000+ BMW or Audi.
The sound system is a 15-speaker Harman Kardon system that is truly mind boggling to hear. There is an electric sunroof, auto-dimming side mirrors and a 360-degree camera that allows you to see every single angle around the car.
The head unit is a 7.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, along with a Qi Wireless Charger and Heads Up Display for the driver.
The red leather seats are truly luxurious and unlike anything you would expect in a car at this price tag. The front seats are heated AND have the ability to be cooled as well.
Safety
The Stinger GT has a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.
Every Stinger has auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, driver attention alert, a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, and seven airbags (dual front, front side, full length curtain and driver’s knee).
The GT and GT-Line models gain a 360-degree camera/surround view camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front parking sensors – but no park assist system to help you out in carparks. These versions also get a colour head-up display (HUD).
Ride & Comfort
This car handles incredibly well for its size. It can be smooth and gentle when needed, or furious and roaring when wanted.
The 19-inch wheels do not make the ride any bumpier than you might expect.
Warranty & Servicing
Kia offers the best warranty and servicing of any new car. Hands down. No questions asked.
Warranty is for 7 years and for unlimited km’s.
Servicing is every 12 months or 10,000km (whichever occurs first). The average servist cost over 7 years is just $487.

Overall
The Stinger GT is overall a fun, agile saloon that turns the eyes of many. The Kia badge is shocking to some, but not surprising to others. It handles incredibly well and has all the bells and whistles at an extremely affordable price range. This car could be placed on the same level as the BMW 440i but for nearly half the price.
