The French GP is done and dusted and it gave a mix of the good and not so good of Formula 1. Whilst the race didn’t provide as many moments as that of Baku, the fight for the WDC took another turn as it was Hamilton’s weekend to dominate and take an extensive lead at the top. There’s much happening in the F1 world, so here’s the latest:
• Ricciardo Receives McLaren Offer
McLaren has reportedly offered Daniel Ricciardo a whopping $20 million per season deal to join after the 2018 season. Ricciardo has stressed his decision will be made regarding the team’s abilities to help him win a title, however McLaren’s struggles on track this season despite a switch to Renault suggest Ricciardo may be wary of joining rather then staying with Red Bull.
• Raikkonen Reportedly Expresses Desire to Leave F1
Kimi Raikkonen has expressed intentions to Ferrari to retire from Formula 1 at the end of the year. The Finn has struggled in Ferrari this season on track and is facing allegations off the track which may factor into his decision. This move would leave a seat open at Ferrari and whilst many would like to see Ricciardo fill this position, many in the F1 world are toting Charles Leclerc to be promoted to this position instead.
• McLaren Held Emergency Meeting at Paul Ricard
Reports suggest McLaren’s entire race crew held an emergency meeting inside the motor home at Paul Ricard amidst rumours there Is significant friction within the team. Many workers in McLaren are reportedly unhappy with management and this unrest is close to boiling over with many expressing desire to revolt. Alonso has given his backing to McLaren, expressing that he ‘trusts the team’ however this one may get uglier before it gets better.
