Welcome to the weekly roundup of everything Formula 1! Here you will find a summary of the biggest news and announcements every week in the F1 world. After a big return to F1, there’s a lot to unpack, and with that being said, here’s the latest:
• World Endurance Championship Mandates Halo for 2019
The FIA WEC will adopt the new Halo technology which was introduced by Formula 1 in 2019. It is rumoured we may see this as early as Le Mans, however there may be a few critics who will say this is the wrong move for WEC. Many in the F1 world, including drivers, are frustrated with the Halo thus far, with reduced visibility both on-board and for the viewers at home.
• McLaren to Bring Upgrades to Bahrain:
McLaren is tipped to bring improvements in Bahrain that could see an increase of up to tenths per lap. Fernando Alonso and Eric Boullier have both gone on record stating the team has worked very hard to solve reliability issues and make the car competitive, which was rewarded with a P5 finish from Alonso in Melbourne.
• Renault Calls For Engine Development Freeze:
Renault have moved an eye towards the relatively near-future by calling for a freeze on engine development during the interim 2019-2020 season before new regulations are introduced. Renault believes this will allow for current suppliers to focus on fully preparing on new regulations, and will refrain from giving an advantage to new entrants who can allocate all their resources to 2021 projects.
